Valerian is known for its calming properties. It is used as a muscle relaxant, to treat tension and migraine headaches, insomnia, menstrual cramps, hyperactivity and stress.

HISTORY: There are over 200 Valerian species and variants found in Australia, China, Europe, India, Japan, and North America (including Mexico). This perennial plant grows up to 4 feet or 125 centimeters in height. The root produces an odor variously described as offensive, distinctive, and penetrating. Valerian’s medicinal use in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America has been documented in Greek, Medieval and Renaissance texts. It has been used as a sedative and an anti-nauseant, as well as for gastrointestinal and urinary ailments.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: While Valerian is primarily used in the treatment of mild insomnia, it is increasingly being found in herbal products used to treat muscle spasms and pain.
DOSAGE: 1/2 to 1 teaspoon before retiring, or as needed for stress, etc. 25-50 drops pure or in a little water.
